Bus stops are often completely unmarked and unless you know a “local”, you won’t know where to wait for the bus. Here Ben, Herb and Maria (our mama tica) await the bus to take us from downtown San Jose to our home in San Francisco de dos Rios.

We were so blessed to have our son, Benjamin, visit with us for a week. God provided in a special way for this to happen and we thoroughly enjoyed having him. It was amazing how quickly his Spanish returned to him.
While here in language school in Costa Rica, a number of us have commented on how we are learning a lot more about English as we try to learn Spanish. It helps that Wanda’s grammar teacher (center in red shirt) speaks and understands English so well. She helps us take our understanding of English and change our thinking into Spanish. She’s a great teacher and we are learning so much!
Here is a picture of Wanda’s class with their “maestra de la clase de Fonetica”. The five females have enjoyed getting to know each other and we often try to encourage each other in this team effort of learning another language.
While here in language school, we have met a Korean pastor who ministers in Argentina. Since he knows very little English and we know no Korean, we are learning to communicate in our common language – Spanish. It has been a joy to get to know this brother in the Lord!
This is a normal sight – reviewing and studying notes a few minutes before class. This is the central corridor of our classes here at the language school in Costa Rica.
Each morning we have a break in between our four sessions of classes and that is when the terraza here at the institute is one busy place. It is a place for food and relaxation but usually heads are pouring over books preparing for the next class. Notice Herb is on the left, busily preparing!
Here is a picture of one of Wanda’s teachers here at the language institute. She has been a real blessing as she shares not only about verbs, nouns, pronouns, etc. but gives insight into the Latin American culture. Her love for the Lord is very evident and she has been faithfully teaching here for 23 years. The other day she said, “There is never a day I don’t want to come teach. This is not a job for me, this is a ministry. I have had others who have come through this class tell me, ‘Someday (maybe in heaven), I hope to introduce you to those who came to know the Lord as a result of you helping me to learn this language.’”
