This was Level 2 Spanish class at the Institute. We were just the right mix – humour with lots of hard work. We had the best teacher – she was just great!

We are here in San Jose’, Costa Rica for the month of March for language training at the Spanish Language Institute. This is a picture of the church we attended on Sunday, March 7. We understood parts of the sermon since everything was in Spanish.

Everywhere you look there are bars, gates, locks and razor wire. Most neighborhoods even have security guys that roam the streets on bikes. It is not a pretty sight but all of the precautions are necessary. We have walked along these streets every day but we make sure we always stay alert.

At the Institute they have a beautiful arbor of flowers and vines. It is peaceful and restful in the shade and aids concentration!

We often spend the mornings and evenings at the kitchen table studying Spanish, quizzing each other and practicing aloud. We figure we spend about 5 hours preparing for class each day.

We are attending the Spanish Language Institute in San Jose, Costa Rica for the month of March. We have much to learn! Here we visited a nearby park – within walking distance of the home where we are staying.

Our hostess, Maria Sandi, took us on a walk on Saturday, February 28 and treated us to a coconut drink. That’s a real coconut!

Cultural Differences

On Saturday, February 28 we visited a fruit and vegetable market with Maria Sandi, our hostess. We recognized most of the items. We have loved having so much fruit to eat while here.
